At Unlocking Literacy, I provide structured, multisensory reading intervention designed to support struggling readers and students with dyslexia-related difficulties. With years of classroom experience and a passion for helping children build confidence, I offer individualized and micro-group instruction focused on foundational literacy skills, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, and reading comprehension.
I have been part of the Special Education in public schools and I know how overwhelming it can be. My support is available to families as they navigate the special education and school support process by helping parents better understand the intervention options, school communication, and the resources available to their children.
My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where students feel encouraged, capable, and successful as they grow into confident readers.
Comprehensive Services
Unlocking Literacy offers a range of specialized services designed to meet the unique needs of every student. Approaches focus on individualized strategies, engaging methods, and continuous support to ensure significant progress and lasting results.
Reading intervention
Targeted interventions to address specific reading difficulties, helping students build foundational skills and overcome obstacles on their path to literacy.
Phonics and phonemic awareness
Explicit systematic instruction strengthens phonics skills and phonemic awareness, crucial components for decoding words and developing strong reading fluency.
Handwriting support
As each letter is presented it is seen as we read it and write it in script and cursive. Cursive handwriting is recommended and taught as each letter is formed in a way that letter reversals are avoided.
Spelling
As students learn phonograms, they also learn the specific situations in which a particular letter or letter pattern is used instead of another that represents the same sound. Word spelling formulas and situational spelling patterns provide students with the tools needed to spell accurately, rather than relying solely on memorization. Irregular words are introduced systematically, based on the letters and corresponding sounds that have already been taught.
